Vigilante Crypt, Page 12

Well, I’m alive again.  Kind of.  No kidding, but whatever kind of cold I had really has knocked me on my butt!  Of course, the really good news is that I did manage to get page 12 out.  A special thanks goes out to Letterer/Designer/Friend Anthony Schiavino, who got this page together for me in less than 2 hours after I sent it to him.

I particularly like the way the “GRAAAAH!” came out.)

The reason for no updates

Guys,

I see that some of you’ve sent emails, and I’m sorry for not getting back to you about them, but this is day 8 of this feverish cold, and I’m not any better (despite being on anti-biotics).  You would not believe the bloody, technicolor crap that’s coming out of my nose right now.  I’m going to try to go back to the doctor today for a round of something different…keep your fingers crossed.

I don’t think I’ve ever been sick this long before.

Take care,

Dave

Run, Eddie!

I’ve said before that I base Eddie’s hometown of Gath on my own small hometown, Poplar Plains, Kentucky.  One of the things that makes it really interesting is that I get to draw scenes that resemble the ones I have in my head from home.

Here’s one.  Many cool summer nights I would drive with my brother through town with the windows down and see a scene very much like the background of this picture.

Of course, I never saw Eddie….maybe I wasn’t looking the right way?)

Enjoy a sneak peek from the next page!)

Vigilante Crypt, Page 11!

Aaaand cue Charles…cue burning ghost……roll ‘em!

This page is nothing like what was scripted, and I really have no excuse for the change except……I really wanted to draw a big, fat, dramatic page!  I’m actually really glad I did…it was a joy to do from start to finish.  This is the first time Eddie sees Charles, and I’ve got to say, it’s a hell of a first impression!

If dear Eddie hadn’t put on the ring at that very moment, who knows what would have happened?  Would Charles have been able to defend the unwitting Eddie?  Would Eddie have ended up like the poor Professor Lankhart? And why is it that Charles is surprised that his ghostly guns have no effect on the thing?  All will be revealed in time, but first……….run, Eddie!!

A big thanks to letterer/designer extraordinare, Anthony Schiavino for picking a font/balloon package for Charles that really captures the creepy, authoritative feel of how he speaks.

Eddie Quick = Shia LaBeouf?

Anthony Schiavino, letterer/designer of the GHOST ZERO comic, sent me an email link to a couple of pictures from the new Indiana Jones film (a must see!) that featured Shia LaBeouf.  He suggested that Shia would be a great candidate to play Eddie.  Check out these photos:

I’ve got to say that Shia does have that “everyman” kind of quality that I think fits Eddie quite nicely, and after seeing him in the Transformers movie, I think he’s certainly got the talent to pull it off.

Similarly, I think Alan Rickman would make a very nice Charles Pallentine.  See for yourself:

(That drawing of Charles is a peek from Page 11, by the way!)

So, what say you?  Any better candidates?  I guess all I have to do now is to make a movie sometime next year and we’ll be set.  Yessir.

Maybe I’d better just keep writing the comic for now.)

Escape from the Vigilante Crypt, Page 10

Whew!  It’s been a busy week, folks!   I’ve been out of town at a conference followed by a comic convention, and as a result, haven’t gotten ANY work done on the comic!  Fortunately, I was a week ahead, so…here’s page 10!

Poor Eddie’s had some shocks during the past couple of pages….and he’s in for some more!  A word to the wise: be careful about casually slipping on ancient rings that you find in haunted houses!)

As always, look for a new page next week!
