Fleshless Legion, Pg. 8!

Page 8

Ok folks!  It’s the last day of work for me before the Christmas Break, so I’m putting up the last page of “The Fleshless Legion”!  It was a blast to write…I really learned lots about panel dynamics and camera angles…not to mention working with the art material itself.  I think, after a full year of “practice” (I put up the first panel of “Sea of the Dead” in January 2007), I’m ready to start my first, full-size print comic, that will be titled “The Vigilante Crypt!”  Look for it in July of 08!

In the meantime, I’m re-working the art for “Sea of the Dead” and “Fleshless Legion” and putting them (along with some really cool extras) into a print comic called “Ghosts with Guns: The early years”.  This is going to look absolutely awesome…not just because the whole thing is being professionally lettered, but the design of the book is something you’ll have to see.  And see it you will…probably in the next couple of months!  Stay tuned here for an official announcement about it in January!)

In the meantime, I hope everyone has a safe and happy Holiday season.  I truly appreciate all of you who have stopped by, and I’ve loved reading every comment.  With all of the friends and fans I’ve made along the way, this project has been SO worth it…..and we’re just getting started!)

Watch out, 2008……here comes GHOST ZERO!

Fleshless Legion, Page 6 (and) 7!

I decided to put up two pages in this post, as most of my mirror sites were catching up pretty quickly.  GHOST ZERO was made a feature comic on Drunkduck yesterday, and drove the pageviews up to 9,980 for the day!  It was nice having comments from so many new faces.

I’m still hard at work putting together a compliation of the “Sea of the Dead” and “Fleshless Legion” stories, plus some new content for a print volume that is shaping up to be pretty spectacular.  I’ll give updates as I go along, but I think the quality of this book is going to be incredible for a first release.

Happy Holidays to everyone!

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program…

GZ_Koreanconcept

Just wanted to throw out a quick piece I did over the weekend of GZ’s “middle years” in the 1950’s.  Yep, he’s involved in the Korean War…which will make for some very interesting stories…..not the least of which is how he got involved!)

As for the style, I’m experimenting with a technique using fewer black outlines (which flatten the art a bit, in my opinion).  I’m not sure how it turned out, but here it is.

Setting the scene with the bad guys.  Of course, being bad guys, they do bad things…and I can’t think of much worse than a flesh-burning gas that apparently acts as a substitute for blood!

Now, why the heck are they wearing sheets, you might ask?  Well, there are a couple of reasons…one of which may be picked out by history buffs in a couple more pages.

Stay Tuned!

Looking Ahead…

I know most of you didn’t know this, but I finished the last page of the 8-page short “The Fleshless Legion” a couple of days ago.  Since I spend typically 2 hours each night (more on the weekends) working on the comic, it was a weird feeling not to have any pending deadlines……..so I made some.)  I started thinking about what’s next on the GHOST ZERO agenda, and a time-line for accomplishments I’d like to have done in 2008 (sort of an early New Year’s resolution, if you will) and here is the list:

1. Put the stories “Fleshless Legion” and “Sea of the Dead” together in a comic format, throw in some sketches from the sketchbook, and have the thing available as Print-on-demand and Wowio.

2. Complete the first full GZ comic, “Vigilante Crypt” by mid-year.  I’m taking 3 weeks off of my day job in April to help make this happen.

3. Complete the GZ novel “Murder Machine” by mid-year.  I’m about 20,000 words into this, and I’m really glad I started.  Writing prose gives me a whole new insight into the characters and setting.

4. Start attending Conventions.  I plan on doing at least a couple of local conventions this year: Wonderfest in Louisville, KY and the Lexington Comic Show in Lexington, KY (Robert Kirkman is always there), where I plan to have booths with GZ merchandise.

So, I’m gonna be busy.)  I’m starting to plot out “Vigilante Crypt” as we speak, and I want to do a couple of experimental pieces to try some new things with my art. Hopefully, I’ll learn something that will make the next GZ story even better.

So, stay tuned!

Here’s page 4 of the 8-page short (halfway)!  I like the dynamic angles shown here, and the comment on the feeling Charles might have on having a body to live in again.  That image of Eddie during the transformation is the first time I’ve done a “transformation” pic, and I liked how it turned out.  Enjoy!

“Captain Spectre” featured in the news!

Folks,

My good friend Tom Floyd, creator of the great pulp webcomic CAPTAIN SPECTRE has gotten some press in the Lincoln Journal Star!  It has the (seemingly) inevitable amount of “cheese” that it seems any newspaper article has to have when it concerns comics, but it’s a great look at the comic and the life of its creator.  Take some time to check out the article, and Tom’s great strip!

Fleshless Legion, Page 3

Page 3

Here’s Page 3.  Creeps in sheets digging up a cemetery can’t be up to any good!  I enjoyed this page because it gave me a chance to show things from a bystander’s perspective, and the design was challenging.  I’m still not sure just how well it worked out.  I have to say that I like the middle-left panel because I had the sudden idea that a watertower needed to be in the picture, and I like the top-right panel because the lighting was so interesting.  Oh, if you see lots of folks smoking in the comic, it’s because…….lots of folks did back in 1948.)  Enjoy!

Here is Page 2 of “The Fleshless Legion”.  I’ll be posting the pages like this - every page will be a new post, but I’ll also be collecting them all together for easy viewing in the “Fleshless Legion” page listed at the top right of the screen.

I really enjoyed drawing this page.  That Panel 2 picture of Eddie and Charles is one of my favorite drawings.  I also look forward to drawing the ghosts of the recently murdered because they’re so….creepy!)  Anyway, Enjoy!

GHOST ZERO IS LIVE!

Welcome, friends!  Well, I’ve decided to host Ghost Zero on its own site.  Here, you’ll be able to find updates about the GHOST ZERO comic, behind-the-scenes art, and any pulp-related material that I just can’t keep from posting.

To start us off, I’ve posted the first three pages of my story “The Fleshless Legion”!  You can see the first page below, and you can see the other pages by clicking on “Fleshless Legion” on the right under “Pages”.

The Fleshless Legion was a piece that I was going to submit to the Zuda contest, but I decided against it so I could develop the project myself.  It was originally limited to an 8-page pitch, but it’s an interesting story, so…what do you think?  Would you like to see more?
